SICKNESS CERTIFICATES – THE LAW
For periods of sickness between one to three days – you do not need a certificate.
For periods of sickness of four to six days – your employer may require you to complete a Self-certification Form SC2 which is available from your employer or the DSS.
For illness longer than six days – you will need to see a doctor for them to issue a sickness certificate Med3 and you will need to see them for any subsequent renewal of the certificate.
Under the law, you should not normally need to see a Doctor for sick-certification for an illness of less than five working days and your employer is not entitled to demand a Doctors certificate.
